You will teach up to 20 hours per week in a standard 40-hour work week. The remainder of the time in a teacher's work schedule is set aside for lesson planning, grading tests and homework, placement testing of new students and professional development and training.

For our younger learners, the maximum class size is 10 students and each class at this age group will have a bilingual teaching assistant.

Classes aged 7 plus is 16 students and lower ability classes in this age group will also have a bilingual teaching assistant.

EPIK, SMOE and GEPIK Teaching Positions (Apply NOW for the February 2020 Session)

What is EPIK?

EPIK stands for English Program in Korea, a program sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Education. The EPIK Program was established in 1995 with the mandate to improve the English speaking abilities of students and teachers in Korea and to develop cultural exchanges.

Through the EPIK Program, over 1,000 teachers are placed in ESL teaching jobs every year. Reach To Teach works with the Korean Ministry of Education to place English Language Instructors (ELIs) in Korean public schools throughout the country.

What is SMOE?

Public school positions with the SMOE (Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education) are some of the most sought after in Korea. Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is a dynamic, modern city with activities of interest for anyone! If you want to experience a large Asian city at it’s busy, energetic best, Seoul is for you. SMOE stands for Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.

The program was established in 2005 to provide English education to public school students in the Seoul metropolitan area with the eventual aim to place a native English speaker in every school. There are currently hundreds of ESL teachers in Korea teaching for the SMOE Program.

What is GEPIK?

GEPIK stands for Gyeonggi English Program in Korea. It was established in 2003, to provide English education to all public schools in the Gyeonggi province. GEPIK has the highest demand for English education in all of Korea. This program offers teachers a unique experience by allowing them to share their culture and knowledge with students while gaining experience teaching ESL in Public Schools across Korea.

All teachers receive the following benefits:

  • Free housing provided by the Program (utilities not included)
  • Entrance Allowance of 1.3 mil won to purchase a one-way ticket
  • Exit Allowance of 1.3 mil won or a renewal Bonus of 2.0 mil won for resigning
  • 10 days of ESL training in Seoul
  • Paid vacation for 18 working days plus 13-15 National Holidays
  • Medical insurance and pension, 50% of which is covered by the Program
  • Higher salaries for teachers who choose to work in more rural locations
  • 40 hour work week with roughly 22 teaching hours a week

  • Passport holder of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, UK or USA
  • Minimum education of Bachelor's degree
  • Under 55 years of age
  • No criminal record
  • Be mentally and physically healthy

Applicants must also have at least ONE of the following qualifications:

  • BA Degree in Education
  • Teaching license in your home country
  • TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate 100 hours or more (The Program will now give preference to applicants who have a 20 hour in-class teaching component)
  • 1 year of full time teaching experience with the TaLK program
